The United States is a highly developed and industrialized society, and we use a great deal of energy in our homes, businesses, industries. Energy efficiency is not the same as energy conservation. Conservation results in the use of less energy, while energy efficiency relies on the use of technology that requires less energy to accomplish a particular task.

The TAMU College of Architecture's Digital Fabrication Facility, known by students as the "Architecture Ranch" is a 8,000 sq. ft. research and construction facility located on a 12-acre site at Texas A&M University's Riverside Campus. The College's Sustainability and Energy Laboratory supports an Interactive Building Design website that inserts a person into a building to create a visually interactive 3-dimensional experience.

Texas Center for Applied Technology: The Texas Center for Applied Technology (TCAT) pursues enterprising research projects that fulfill client needs while inserting new technologies into society.

Energy Systems Laboratory: ESL has helped the wind energy industry by measuring wind energy velocity and direction for several years. ESL is a division of the Texas Engineering Experiment Station and a member of The Texas A&M University System.
